Editorial policy

RoomTamer currently publishes theoretical references and calculation tools. The publication is operated by RoomTamer Studio, with guides written by our four-author team. Each guide identifies its author. This page describes the current evidence limits and the requirements for publishing stronger claims.

1. Evidence types

LabelWhat it meansWhat it does not establish
Calculated estimateAn equation or model evaluated using stated inputs and assumptions. Default dimensions and coefficients are examples.A measured response, audible improvement or construction guarantee.
External reference dataA value attributed to an external source. Product data needs the exact report, specimen, thickness, mounting and test method.A measurement by this site, or applicability to a different product or installation.
Related external measurementAn inspected original account of measurements, linked with conditions, source affiliation and limitations. Manufacturer-published cases are identified.Independent reproduction by this site, validation of every article claim, or completion of the guide’s proposed comparison.
Source verification incompleteA value or claim has not yet been matched to sufficient original documentation. This currently applies to all 24 material rows.A certified coefficient, verified comparison or specification for purchasing or construction.
Exploratory measurementAn actual recording with disclosed limitations such as uncalibrated equipment, limited bandwidth or incomplete controls.Validation of a guide's separate experiment, standardized testing or a general result.
Documented site measurementA result accompanied by the setup, raw data, analysis settings, repeatability checks and limitations described below.A result for every room, an independent certification or compliance with a standard unless that is separately demonstrated.

2. Sources and numerical examples

Reference lists provide background reading. Some existing links lead to publisher or organization homepages, and claim-level source checking remains incomplete. Naming ISO, ASTM or ITU documents does not establish that a test followed them or that every numerical claim was checked against them.

Before presenting product coefficients as verified external data, identify a matching report and its product version, specimen dimensions, mounting, frequency bands and test method. Until then, inherited values are provisional examples. A model calculation using those values inherits their uncertainty.

Worked examples must identify their assumptions. Simulated curves must be labeled as simulations; they cannot be substituted for recorded sweeps, laboratory reports or measured reductions.

Guide sections titled “External measurements & evidence limits” summarize selected original experiments and link to the source figures or reports. We do not reproduce their images. Related evidence may concern different rooms, products or test conditions; those differences remain explicit. Reusing one report for two topics does not create two independent experiments. “No sufficiently matched external measurement confirmed” describes the limits of our source review, not proof that no such research exists.

3. Measurement status and publication criteria

All published guides are labeled Site measurement: not published. Their verification sections describe proposed comparisons, not booked experiments, available equipment or completed work. A local built-in microphone feasibility check does not complete those comparisons.

A published site result needs:

  1. The date, room dimensions, relevant boundary conditions, source and microphone positions, and treatment configuration.
  2. The equipment and software, calibration status, gain and processing settings, usable bandwidth, and background-noise assessment.
  3. Original measurement files linked with the result, with permission to share any captured material; screenshots alone are insufficient for review.
  4. The analysis method, smoothing, timing reference, frequency and time windows, and consistent plot scales.
  5. Repeated measurements, documented changes between conditions, invalid runs and uncertainty. Results must be reported even when they do not support the expected improvement.
  6. A conclusion limited to the measured setup. Laboratory absorption, angular diffusion and building-isolation ratings require their own appropriate methods; an ordinary room sweep cannot establish all of them.

Exploratory data may be useful if clearly labeled, but it stays separate from a completed verification claim. Each guide's status changes only when the evidence actually addresses that guide's proposed comparison.

4. Calculator checks

The calculation code has automated numerical and input-validation checks, including mode enumeration, geometry, unit conversion and absorption-area limits. Static pages include default outputs; JavaScript updates the calculations in the browser. These checks assess implementation behavior, not the truth of source coefficients or performance in a physical room.

5. Corrections

Report an unsupported claim, numerical error or missing source through the contact page. Corrections should identify the affected claim and supporting evidence. Substantive guide changes are reflected in the page's updated date.
